Frequently asked questions

How is pregnancy and postpartum pt different?

Pregnancy and the postpartum period are a time of incredible change that create unique demands on the body. Dysfunctions and conditions that arise from this time really require specialized knowledge, training, and treatment beyond standard PT. The impact of things like hormonal changes, comorbidities, labor and delivery positioning, and postural changes all create a unique presentation that require individualized treatment plans to optimize your goals.

Misinformation surrounding pregnancy, labor and delivery, and postpartum recovery can be overwhelming and lead to fear, exacerbation in symptoms, or even create new ones. I am here to help you sort through the confusion and create a plan rooted in the most current research that you can trust.

how can virtual pt help?

Virtual visits are an effective way to receive PT remotely, especially for women with limited access to pregnancy and postpartum specialists. Education is one of the most powerful tools to support women in their peripartum journey and to ensure independence after treatment. Movement evaluations, exercise demonstrations, and manual techniques are easily demonstrated over video and screen sharing allows for in depth analysis of posture, breathing, and movement dysfunction potentially contributing to symptoms.

what to expect during a home health visit?

During your initial evaluation I will take you through a hands-on movement screen, posture and breathing analysis, and soft tissue assessment. An internal pelvic floor exam will also be performed unless client opts out.

do you accept insurance?

Dr.AltheaPC PLLC is an out of network provider for all insurance plans to ensure high quality 1:1 care without the limitations imposed by insurance companies. Please check with your insurance provider prior to treatment to ensure full understanding of reimbursement. Clients are responsible for all costs not covered.

Do i need a referral?

NY: No. NY state has direct access to physical therapy treatment for PTs with three years of experience for 10 visits or 30 days, whichever comes first. After this, the patient must be referred to a referring practitioner for evaluation and script to continue PT.

CT: No. CT has direct access to physical therapy treatment unless no improvement is made after 6 visits or any 30 day period, whichever comes first. After this, the patient must be referred to a referring practitioner for evaluation and script to continue PT.

how do i book an appointment?

For virtual appointments, book an initial evaluation online at a time that works best for you. For home health appointments, please email or call to discuss availability.
